Youth . Community. Culture.
Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Champion Sound was formed in 2007 as Queensland’s first purpose built reggae sound system by social entrepreneurs Chris Jay and John Lumley.
Over the following years, in collaboration with some of the best creative and cultural forces in the region, we developed and coordinated many workshops and programs based around music and the creative industries to assist marginalised and disadvantaged people achieve their personal, social, creative and financial goals.
We also organised, supplied sound for, and ran numerous community festivals, dances and other events in and around Queensland. These workshops, programs and events were reliant on external funding, or often self-funded, and often free to the public, which though successful and rewarding, was also limiting.
Knowing we could achieve so much more if Champion Sound was a more structured and formal entity (legally speaking), in 2021 we made the decision to incorporate as a Not For Profit organisation (NFP).
As a NFP organisation our remit is to strengthen communities and help marginalised and disadvantaged people by providing opportunities through the use of the creative industries.
From our creative NDIS supports to community music and market events, these opportunities range from educational/vocational pathways and skill development to social inclusion and fun.
